About me:
Dr. Aparna Samaraweera is a Lecturer in Construction Management. She is a graduate in BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying and holds a PhD in Construction Management. She is a passed finalist of Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA-UK).
Her research interests are in Sociology in Built Environment, in particular, studying culture in different construction contexts such as in construction project management, technology adoption in construction, cross-culture project team management, post-disaster reconstruction, waste management to name a few.
She is trying to understand why construction industry participants behave the way they do in different contexts and is concerned with discovering patterns in their actions and behaviours. This is with the intention of predicting, how construction industry participants will behave in context specific scenarios and to help them build better habits as individuals. She supervises PhD students in construction management discipline. Please refer the section: "Research Degree Supervision" below to have an overview of ongoing projects.
She holds a Certificate in Teaching in Higher Education and teaches Construction Business Management and Project Appraisal related courses.
She has served in the Sri Lankan Construction industry as a Quantity Surveyor prior to pursuing an academic career. She has experience in working for both construction and consultancy organisations in construction industry related to both private and public sectors. She has contributed to the development of the technical level quantity surveying profession in the Sri Lankan construction industry. Her contributions include being a resource person to the validation of curricular for occupational sector of quantity surveying in Sri Lanka (2016), validation of revised national competency standard for the occupational sector of quantity surveying in Sri Lanka (2016) and development of assessment resource for the occupation of quantity surveying assistant in Sri Lanka (2015) organised by the National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority, Sri Lanka.
